A tragic incident occurred at the popular tourist destination of Koh Samui, Thailand, where a 24-year-old Russian woman lost her life while practicing yoga. Kamilla Belyatskaya, an aspiring actress, was reportedly meditating on a pink foam mat near the shoreline on Friday, November 29, when she was swept away by a giant wave.

Kamilla was vacationing in Koh Samui with her boyfriend when the tragedy unfolded. The incident occurred at a viewpoint overlooking the Gulfside of Thailand, not designated as a swimming area but a spot frequented for its scenic beauty. Despite warnings issued during the monsoon season, tourists often underestimate the risks posed by unexpected wave surges.

Local authorities promptly launched a rescue operation, enlisting a jet ski group to locate and retrieve Belyatskaya. Unfortunately, rough sea conditions hampered their efforts. A bystander who bravely attempted to rescue Kamilla also went missing and remained unaccounted for as of Saturday, November 30.

During the initial search, only Kamilla’s pink yoga mat was visible floating in the turbulent waters. After 30 minutes of unsuccessful attempts and worsening wave conditions, the search was temporarily suspended. Bo Phut police later reported discovering Kamilla’s body on Chaweng Beach around 11 p.m. on Saturday, approximately half a mile from where she had fallen into the sea.

Chaiyaporn Subprasert, the head of the Samui Rescue Center, emphasized the dangers posed by the monsoon season, particularly in high-risk areas such as Chaweng and Lamai beaches, which are marked with red flags to indicate no-swimming zones. He explained that while the incident location was not a designated swimming area, the victim may have been caught off guard by an unexpected wave surge.
