Early Life

Alvaro Antonio García Pérez, professionally known as Álvaro Morte, was born on February 23, 1975, in Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain.


He hails from a Christian family and spent his early years in Bujalance, Córdoba, after relocating with his family.


Morte's journey into the entertainment world was not a direct path; originally enrolled in communications engineering, he later switched to dramatic art, graduating from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Córdoba in 1999.


Despite facing a significant challenge at the age of 33 when he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left thigh, Álvaro Morte emerged victorious, defeating the illness and continuing his pursuit of a successful acting career. This personal triumph adds a compelling layer to the narrative of his life.


Education:

Morte's formal education includes attending the Local School of Spain and earning his diploma in dramatic art from Cordoba’s Dramatic Art Miguel Salcedo Hierro (ESAD) in 1999. He also engaged in post-graduate studies at the University of Tampere, Finland, for two months before settling in Madrid.


Career Beginnings:

Alvaro Morte's acting journey commenced with a minor role in the Spanish television series "Hospital Central." His breakthrough came with the lead role in the TV series "Planta 25," where he portrayed Ray, a driver, from 2007 to 2008.


Subsequently, he played Adolfo Castillo in "Bandolera" and Gabriel Areta in the soap opera "Amar en tiempos revueltos."


Morte expanded his repertoire by taking on a minor role in the biopic film "Lola, la película" (2007), showcasing his versatility. Not limited to on-screen performances, he founded the theatre company "300 pistolas" in 2012.


Money Heist and International Recognition:

In 2014, Álvaro Morte joined the cast of the long-running telenovela "El secreto de Puente Viejo," portraying Lucas Moliner until 2017. However, it was his role as Sergio "the Professor" Marquina in the television series "Money Heist" that propelled him to global stardom.


His portrayal of the meticulous criminal mastermind earned widespread acclaim, and with Netflix acquiring the series in 2017, Morte's fame reached new heights.


Apart from his television success, Morte secured his first main role in a feature film with the Netflix production "Mirage" (2018).

Following his success in "Money Hesit series," Álvaro Morte continued to diversify his roles. He starred in the 2019 Movistar+ television series "El embarcadero" and joined the cast of the Amazon television series "The Wheel of Time" in December 2019, portraying Logain.


Additionally, he was announced to play Juan Sebastián Elcano in the miniseries "Sin límites" in April 2021.
