15th Sep 2024 | category: Series Updates | Hits: 150Ashley Park, who stars in Emily in Paris, has opened up about the stressful experience of filming her topless scene in the popular Netflix series. In episode 8 of season 4, Park's character, Mindy, performs at Crazy Horse, a famous Parisian cabaret known for its nude female dancers. Mindy is trying to raise money for her band to compete in Eurovision, but the scene proved to be quite a challenge for Park.
Speaking at a press event in Rome, the 33-year-old actress described it as "every actor's worst nightmare." She explained, "We have this recurring fear of being on stage in our underwear without knowing what we're doing, and that’s exactly what I experienced. But I was surrounded by the most beautiful dancers in the world."
Park admitted the scene was difficult to film. "It was so stressful and hard to do," she shared. "If it weren't for choreographer Kyle Hanagami and my supportive team, I don’t think I could have made it through."
In the episode, Mindy feels similarly nervous about performing topless. During rehearsals, she even realizes her singing voice is affected when she's not fully dressed. However, she finds a clever way to ease her discomfort. As she dances to Britney Spears' "Oops!... I Did It Again," her best friend Emily (played by Lily Collins) throws her different purses from offstage to cover her body.
Reflecting on the experience, Park now feels proud of the scene. "It’s one acting moment I will never forget," she said.
In addition to the cabaret performance, Park talked about another memorable singing moment from the latest season. In the final episode, Mindy and Emily visit Rome. While strolling through a piazza at night, Emily’s words about the magic of the city inspire Mindy to finish a song she's been working on.
She approaches a street performer, asks to use his piano, and performs an emotional ballad titled "Beautiful Ruins." A crowd gathers to listen as Mindy pours her heart into the song.
Park shared that the final song in Rome holds special meaning because it’s original to Mindy’s character. "[Songwriter] Freddy Wexler did a wonderful job capturing real emotions from my life and putting them into the character’s story," she explained.
The show’s creator, Darren Star, also highlighted the significance of filming in Rome. "Rome is another great romantic city, like Paris, and it brought a different energy to the story," he said. He also expressed hope that Emily in Paris, which premiered in 2020, will get a fifth season, teasing that he already has some ideas for what could come next for Emily, Mindy, and the other main characters.
