Thiago Alcantara has announced his retirement from football.

The midfielder, whose four-year spell with Liverpool FC ended this summer, has decided to end a professional career filled with honors and memorable moments.

Thiago Alcântara do Nascimento, known simply as Thiago Alcântara or Thiago, was born on April 11, 1991, in Italy to Brazilian parents and raised in Spain.

He is the eldest child of former footballer Mazinho. Thiago joined Barcelona's youth academy at the age of 14 and made his first-team debut in 2009.

Thiago rose through the ranks at Barcelona and truly broke into the team during the 2010-11 season, contributing to their La Liga and Champions League victories.

With exceptional ball control and vision, he became a key player for Barcelona over the next two seasons, adding another La Liga title, a FIFA Club World Cup, and a Copa del Rey to his collection.

In 2013, Thiago moved to Bayern Munich, where his success continued. He helped Bayern win the Bundesliga in each of his seven seasons with the club, along with four German Cups and another Club World Cup. His time in Munich culminated in a Champions League victory in the 2019-20 season, where he played a crucial role.

In September 2020, Thiago transferred to Liverpool and took the No. 6 jersey. Despite injuries, he made 98 appearances for the Reds, showcasing his skill and quality. During the 2021-22 season, he helped Liverpool win the Carabao Cup and the Emirates FA Cup.

Thiago's contract with Liverpool ended this summer, and he left the club in May 2024, receiving a warm farewell from Anfield on the final day of the 2023-24 season.

On the international stage, Thiago was capped 46 times by Spain, scoring twice.

Reflecting on his career, Thiago said, "I will always be willing to give back what I have been given and I am grateful for the time I have enjoyed it.
