Arend Martijn "Arne" Slot was born on September 17, 1978. He is a Dutch professional football manager and former player who has recently been appointed as the head coach of Liverpool FC.

Arne Slot Playing Career

Slot began his football journey at VV Bergentheim, his hometown club. At 17, he joined FC Zwolle, where he initially struggled with injuries and limited playing time.

Despite these challenges, Slot evolved into a goal-scoring midfielder. In 2002, he helped FC Zwolle win the Eerste Divisie, earning them promotion to the Eredivisie after 13 years.

After this success, Slot moved to NAC Breda, where he played under Henk ten Cate. During his first season, NAC Breda finished fourth in the Eredivisie, their best league finish since 1956. Slot made his European debut in the UEFA Cup, though NAC Breda were defeated by Newcastle United.

Slot then played for Sparta Rotterdam in 2007 before returning to FC Zwolle in 2009. He played his final professional season there after helping the team win another Eerste Divisie title in 2012. Slot retired in 2013, known for his passing and vision, despite lacking physical speed.

Arne Slot Coaching Career

Slot's transition to coaching began at PEC Zwolle, where he worked as a youth coach after retiring as a player. He then moved to Cambuur, where he served as an assistant coach.

When head coach Rob Maas was fired in 2016, Slot stepped up as interim co-head coach alongside Sipke Hulshoff. The duo led Cambuur to a significant improvement, finishing third in the Eerste Divisie and reaching the KNVB Cup semi-finals.

Slot's tenure at AZ ended controversially in 2020 when he was sacked for negotiating with Feyenoord while still employed by AZ.

Arn Slot at Feyenoord

Slot took over as Feyenoord's head coach in December 2020. His first season saw the club reach the UEFA Europa Conference League final and secure a third-place finish in the Eredivisie.

Slot's strategic approach and ability to develop players earned him the Rinus Michels Award for Eredivisie Manager of the Year.

In the 2022-23 season, Slot guided Feyenoord to a league title, their first since 2017. They also made significant strides in European competitions, reaching the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.

Slot was again awarded the Rinus Michels Award, becoming one of the few coaches to win it consecutively.
